Hair and makeup artist Lori shares her deeply personal journey of growing up in a strict religious environment and ultimately reclaiming her spiritual autonomy. Adopted into a deeply religious family, Lori felt constrained by rigid rules and expectations from a young age. Even as a child, she sensed that what she was being taught didn’t resonate with her soul. This disconnect was compounded by experiences of abuse and trauma within her church, leaving her feeling unsafe and unseen—yet still inwardly aware that she was a deeply spiritual being.
Despite these challenges, Lori’s authentic self remained free-spirited, intuitive, and guided by a strong inner knowing. She describes always having a gut feeling about people and situations and learning over time to trust those instincts as a form of inner guidance. After her mother’s passing, Lori experienced a profound and comforting dream that gave her the personal confirmation she needed that her mom was okay. Since then, she continues to receive signs, reassurance, and spiritual guidance from both her mother and father after their passing.
Today, Lori honors her spiritual nature through a variety of practices, allowing her the freedom to choose what resonates in the moment. Whether it’s meditating in a warm candle-lit bath with soothing music, reading uplifting books, or praying in her own way, Lori embraces spirituality as a living, evolving relationship with her soul. Her story is a powerful reminder that spiritual connection doesn’t have to follow one path, and that trusting yourself is often the truest form of faith.
